Description

Please choose desired options above to customise your hive.

Manufactured at Rand, Lincolnshire, the WBC Hive is made from sustainably sourced Canadian Western Red Cedar.

The WBC hive, named after its inventor William Broughton Carr, is a traditional style of beehive. The brood body and each super are surrounded by outer lifts, as shown in the photos. The inner brood and super boxes (450mm x 411mm) are not the same size as in the National hive but they do take the same size frames, making the WBC hive convenient to have alongside National hives.

The WBC hive's double walled design provides extra insulation and protection, particularly important to bee colonies in colder climates. The hive regulates temperature and humidity very well. This design provides better insulation and protection against the elements compared to single-walled hives. The overlapping lifts and gabled roof are effective at keeping rain water out, whilst the roof escape offers suitable ventilation for proper airflow within the hive, preventing moisture buildup and reducing the risk of diseases.

The WBC hive has a distinctive appearance with overlapping lifts, making it a popular choice among beekeepers for its traditional aesthetic, as well as it's functionality. A stunning focal point for any garden, especially when painted white (in our opinion!). Although cedar does not need to be treated, we can paint or oil your hive for an additional cost.

This hive is delivered ready assembled but it is also available for complete self-assembly at home
