Made from home grown Western Red cedar from sustainable forests. Timber may have solid live knots or small splits, and some panels may be plugged. All frames are also economy grade timber from sustainable forestsin Scandanavia.  This sort of timber is commonly known in the beekeeping industry as ‘seconds’.

Cedar is the timber of choice for beehives.  It is much lighter than pine and immensly more durable.  It does not need to be treated or painted (unlike pine) because the natural oils in the wood repley moisture
