Paul Mann UK 52 pages Softback

Beekeepers are very anthropomorphic when it comes to bees. They imagine the bees in the hive down the garden ‘think as they do’, during frosty weather they will say to themselves ‘the bees must feel cold, I will go and put some extra insulation in to keep them warmer’. This has manifested itself in various ways, one is to keep the bees within some sort of building. There are examples of this over the years; bee boles, an open fronted shed or within a stone or brick building.

This book gives the authors’ contribution to the design of beehouses.

2011 will be Paul Mann’s 69th beekeeping season. His own beekeeping started in 1942 following advice from his father. His dad was a keen exhibitor, and in 1944 had an observation hive made – which was kept in a young Paul’s bedroom. Following on from this Paul had several ideas regarding large bee houses, one large enough to hold 32 colonies. He later started selling equipment for Thorne’s and building his own design of bee house.
