National Twinstock Complete Assembled

National Twinstock Complete Assembled

£344.40
In stock

Product Code: Q0146

Description

The National Twinstock is designed to hold 12 full size B.S. brood self-spacing Hoffman frames (if you space your frames on plastic or metal ends it will only accommodate 10 frames). The floor is a standard type with two diagonally opposite corner entrances. The brood is completely divided by a rigid, removable plastic division board, twin nucleus crownboards, close off each half of the box. On top of this you can place a double access, rapid feeder; once empty if one of the clear covers is removed bees from one of the nucs can access the whole feeder for any remnants of syrup. The whole hive is protected with a standard 4" National Roof. Half size travelling screens are also available.

We recommend the hive is sited away from shade and well off the ground at a convenient working height.
The nuclei can be set up by placing in each compartment next to the division board two good combs of bees and emerging brood plus some stores of pollen and honey then one comb of bees and honey and finally one frame of foundation. If the nuclei are to remain in the same apiary as they are made up in, then two more good combs of bees should be shaken into each nucleus, this will compensate for the flying bees that return to their parent hive, if stores are short you can feed some syrup or Apifonda, a day later the nuclei can be given a queen cell that is due to emerge in one or two days time or if you prefer a caged, mated queen.
A close watch must be kept on nuclei to make sure that queens are laying and they have food and that frames of foundation are given until they are full and ready to transfer to larger hives, or if you wish to unite the two nuclei, remove one queen, wait for about four hours then pull-out the division board.

A good degree of beekeeping skill is required to make-up and maintain nucleus hives, and most important , to know all the diseases that affect honey bees. Nuclei can be treated for varroa infestation anytime as they are not yet honey producing colonies.
Nucleus hives are very important in modern beekeeping, to mate queens, to make up losses and to constantly improve the bees we keep.
The complete hive consists floor, split brood box with plastic division board, two half size crownboards, two half size travelling screens, full size double access rapid feeder, 4" roof. All parts are available separately. Assembled only. Frames not included.

Orders weighing less than 2kg are sent standard 2nd class Royal Mail.  If you would like your order sent 1st class then please contact us for a quote or choose 1st class in the delivery options.

All orders weighing over 2kg are sent via carrier.  We use Parcel Force and FedEx for UK and international parcels.  We may also send large orders via a pallet service.

On receipt of your order, please check the goods thoroughly. Ensure any consignment note from the carrier is clearly marked ‘unexamined’ – deleting the words ‘in good condition’.  We regret we cannot replace any damaged goods unless this has been done.  Shortages and breakages must be advised within 10 days of delivery.

If there is a problem with the carrier, please contact us immediately on 01673 858555 or e-mail sales@thorne.co.uk.  Please do not attempt to contact the carrier as we are able to deal with this more quickly and efficiently.

Orders will be sent to the billing address unless an alternative delivery address is specified.

Our bees are sold in a travelling box in a six frame nucleus.  These can be collected from either our head office at Rand, Thornes of Windsor, Thornes of Stockbridge or Thornes of Devon.  Bees are pre-ordered and a non-refundable deposit taken.  We will contact you when your bees are ready for collection.

All our bees are sourced from reputable breeders in England.
