Beekeepers are a very varied group of people, from a wide range of backgrounds, with a multitude of skill sets. There is however, no escaping the fact that the keeping of an insect for agricultural production requires a considerable amount of biological knowledge and many who lack formal biological training feel inhibited from attempting the examinations.

This book is designed to present detailed information about the anatomy and physiology of the honeybee in a clear and concise format. Each of the eight chapters covers an aspect of bee biology and all are copiously illustrated.

This is a book that will inform anybody who is interested in this fascinating insect. It is based on the examination modules set by the BBKA, but this text will prove interesting for anyone wanting to know more about our honeybees.

Celia graduated with a degree in agriculture a very long time ago! After a career in teaching and lecturing she gave up work to concentrate on bringing up a family and keeping bees. She has kept bees since 1980.  She was secretary of Warwickshire Beekeeper’s Association for 11 years, its President for five years, spent six years as a member of the BBKA Examinations Board, is a tutor for the BBKL Correspondence Course, Examines at all levels and continues to teach beekeeping.
