Frequently the entry level for prospective candle makers. They are the least expensive moulds and, as they deteriorate with use, should make between 20 and 100 candles. Handle with care; be especially careful where the wick hole is made.
How to use; to help the candle release from the mould, fill with water, empty out and shake off the drops. Select the correct wick for the candle mould. Cut the wick 2" longer than the mould. Using a wicking needle, make a hole in the top of the candle. Then thread the wick carefully through this hole by at least ½". Seal this point with either plasticine or wax glue. Suspend a wick holder across the rim of the mould and pull the wick through this until it is taut. Ensure the wick is centrally located. Place the mould in a suitable mould holder (jam jar and piece of cardboard tube are the Blue Peter option) and pour in the liquid wax. The wax temperature should be approximately 75 C for beeswax or 93 C for paraffin wax. Leave to cool as long as possible, until the candle is set right through to the centre. Whilst the candle is cooling, a well will form on the top, fill this up as necessary. Time taken will depend on the size of the mould and the ambient temperature. When it is set, remove the wickholder and seal. Gently rub the outside of the mould with warm diluted washing up liquid. Carefully peel back the mould to reveal your candle. Trim the top wick to ¼" and cut the base wick flat to the wax. To flatten the base of the candle, rub against a warm surface of an iron or something similar. If you are using Paraffin wax, add Vybar - not Stearin, as it will rot the mould.
